When it comes to Martial Arts and self defense skills, relaxing and focusing are not mutually exclusive. It really doesn’t matter if it is Karate, Kung Fu, or Mixed Martial Arts. As a matter of fact, it takes exactly these two qualities in combination to make a master. Bellevue Martial Arts Academy recognizes this age-old truth and teaches accordingly.

The “holistic” approach is nothing new. In the ancient Shaolin Temple, this approach was the cornerstone, indeed, the point, of all teachings. The person as a whole was brought along a carefully-ordered path with patience and broad understanding, to bring out the very essence of their strength of mind, body and spirit.

Bellevue Martial Arts Academy continues this time-honored path. All the many and varied physical techniques necessary to make a good Martial Arts system are patiently taught in one-on-one classes, at a rate tailored to each student. And relaxation, Chinese Yoga and breathing techniques are taught at Bellevue Martial Arts School as well as the physical practices so important to make a good practitioner.

The combination of the physical and the mental creates a spiritual whole. Bellevue martial arts instruction has a goal of enhancing each student’s ability to draw on their most basic energy–their Chi–to drive their every thought and action. Ultimately, that’s what the true Way of the Warrior, and real Martial Arts, are all about.

In the special martial arts academy at Bellevue martial arts school, students study the ancient martial arts system, combining the five animals, the Dragon, Tiger, Snake, Crane and Leopard. The curriculum is described as a blend of northern and southern Chinese Martial Arts styles. The same well-established program is taught in several Martial Arts classes across the United States and in Canada, as part of a well-developed, interlocking system.

Training methods and philosophy in the Martial Arts academies belonging to this system all follow the ancient traditions developed by the famous and revered Shaolin Temple. And energy and balance in all things are the goals.

All You need to know about kung fu. Some times called Gung Fu.

The History And Evolution of The Chinese Five Animal System

The five animal system is the base for many of the self-defense systems of the Chinese. The system is derived of five animals that are consider classic and these are:

  • The Snake
  • The Tiger
  • The Leopard
  • The Dragon
  • The Crane

There are other styles practices that involves animals such as the praying mantis, monkey, and eagle; however, the original form of five animals is made up of the five classic animals listed above. In this article, we will discuss the evolution and history of the five animal system and its focus.

The Shaolin Temple saw the first development of the five animal system. The historical legend begins with a man named Bodhidarma. According to legend, he was responsible for the introduction of Zen Buddhism in China. The Shaolin Temple was the place of deep meditation for many years with the inhabiting monks. Several years later, Bodhidarm (in Chinese Da Mo), begin to realize that the health and physical condition of the monks was poor because of the length of time they spent meditating. Bandits were continuously threatening to attack the Shaolin Temple and Bodhidarma sought to defend the temple.

He took it upon himself to start implementing various self-defense techniques and exercises, to improve not only their health and strength, but to also be able to defend their temple in the event of an attack. Back in those times, military Chinese citizens were the only people who customarily received any type of training in the martial arts. Therefore, because they were trained as such, when China became at war during the time of the Tang Dynasty, the monks were enlisted for protection of the land and its people.

Several soldiers turned to the monk way of life and they too had training in the martial arts, thanks to their military service. These soldiers helped in refining the practice of the martial arts within the Shaolin Temple. Zhue-Yuen was partially responsible for the five animal system. He was a soldier in the Chinese military that turned to the monk way of life. Zhue-Yuen combined internal and external techniques within the art, which formed the five animal system.

In this system, a closer look was given to these animals and all combined formed the balance they were looking for. For each animal, there is a specific type of training, all of which incorporates into a balance of both the body and the mind.

You should learn the art of self defenese in a safe and extremely respectful atmosphere.

Did you know—– the true art of self defense has always had a history of emphasizing flight before fight!!!

The moral erosion of the arts today has led most uniformed consumers to accept less than the above mentioned adage. They end up choosing schools that will train anyone and everyone regardless of intent or even criminal background, just as long as they pay!! At Bellevue’s Academy of Kempo Martial Arts we teach the Shaolin Kung Fu system which does truly involve using the knowledge of self defense in a ‘no other option situation’. All the students at Bellevue’s Academy Of Martial Arts have, at the beginning of their training, succeeded in passing our screening process. This process allows the teachers to pick and choose those people with the proper intent and attitude toward the art. The result of this type of screening process is that all martial arts students, youth of 5 to adults of 65, fit the criteria of participating in the Bellevue school. This helps the instructors to manage the type of individual who trains at the school and maintains a safe and respectful hall with all the traditions of non-violence and ‘use the art as a last option’ attitude.

It seems odd that, if asked, most people would agree that any type of martial arts training would emphasize peace and non-violence, at the same time accepting that the school right down the block is ‘a little rough for me’ and also accepts the fact that it emphasizes nothing but fighting. If you feel that solid complete training is for you then look up Bellevue’s Academy of Kempo Martial Arts.

It maintains all the traditions that you expect when you are looking for a truly complete system of self defense.

And if your not sure try out the free two week trial to make sure that the school is what you wanted. The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts has locations in Bellevue, Kent, Lynnwood, Mississauga, Hamilton and many other locations.
